Wy did you decide to pursue ophthalmology/your subspecialty?
When I started in medicine there were no IOLs, so we operated when the patients had severe visual impairment. It was an incredible experience to see a person coming in practically blind and leaving with eyesight
What’s been the biggest breakthrough in ophthalmology/your specific field over the last 10 years?
In terms of a colossal breakthrough, it must be anti-VEGF for retinal diseases.
Do you have any strong opinions with which the rest of the field tends to disagree?
Yes – the importance of neuroprotection for retina and CNS diseases.
What would you like to see change in ophthalmology/your subspecialty over the next 10 years?
The biggest change in glaucoma would be to continue the transition from topical drug therapy to laser/surgical treatment.
