What’s been the biggest breakthrough in ophthalmology/your specific field over the last 10 years?
Using tissue addition technology for refractive procedures with high precision shaped corneal implants made of sterile donor tissue. Serving keratoconus, presbyopia, hyperopia and potentially myopic patients.
Do you have any strong opinions with which the rest of the field tends to disagree?
Presbyopia eye drops definitely have a limited market, but the clinical effectiveness and patient satisfaction is behind the initial expectations.
What would you like to see change in ophthalmology/your subspecialty over the next 10 years?
Artificial intelligence will completely change the way we work in eye clinics from a clinical, business and communication perspective within the next five years.
Do you have any personal missions for the next 10 years?
Launch technologies for refractive corrections based on tissue addition technology.
Grow our solutions for digital eye strain in a world with massive growing screen time.
Change the way we collaborate with Web3 Solutions to share knowledge and value within the ophthalmology industry.
Support young refractive surgeons to build their career.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
I would like to learn from these successful people:
Richard P. Feynman. Everyone who reads “Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!” will understand why.
Ozzy Osbourne for his passion and ability to survive over decades.
Hermann von Helmholtz who revolutionized the field of ophthalmology with the invention of the ophthalmoscope.
Salvador Dalí – his life-long interest in science and mathematics was often reflected in his work.
